Share What you Know and Love, Teach a Mock Trials Apprenticeship
Citizen Schools is recruiting volunteers to teach a mock trials
apprenticeship to students at Bedichek Middle School. The time
commitment is 90 minutes per week for 12 weeks beginning mid-September.
Citizen Schools offers curriculum, training, and extensive support to
our volunteers.
Citizen Schools is a national non-profit that operates a network of
afterschool programs for middle schools. The organization began over 10
years ago in Boston and today we are in 5 states, with 30 program sites.
The core of our program is the apprenticeship--a real, hands-on
opportunity for students to engage in learning a subject, trade, or

Travis County Childrens' Protective Services
The Board of Directors of Travis County Childrens' Protective Services is looking
for additional members. The Board meets monthly at the Travis County Commissioner's
Court. It asks members to participate in committee work and occasional fundraising
efforts, and engages in an annual half-day retreat in the fall. The service term
is a three-year commitment and applicants must be residents of Travis County who
will be formally selected by those county commissioners with appointment vacancies.
Knowing you will be working for the abused, neglected and abandoned children in

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Austin and Central Texas

The Ronald McDonald House of Austin and Central Texas provides a home-away-from-home
for families with critically ill or injured children undergoing treatment at Austin-area
hospitals.House Volunteers come to the House on a weekly basis for a two-hour shift in which they
help the staff administratively and support the families. Meal Providers prepare
meals for the families who are staying at the House. Special Event Volunteers
are called upon on an as needed basis to help with fundraisers, mail-outs, and
other events. Spanish-speaker Liaisons are part of a new volunteer program pairing
families who are Spanish-speaking only with bilingual members of the community for
support and guidance.

CASA of Travis County: A Voice for Every Child!
Each month in Travis County there are more than 1,100 children living in foster care
because of abuse and neglect. CASA connects children living under the temporary
managing conservatorship of the state with community volunteers who act as the
child's Guardian ad Litem and advocate for their best interests as their
case moves through the system and life-altering decisions are made on their behalf.
Both training and volunteer schedules are flexible, and volunteers work with the
support of a CASA staff person.

The Capital Area AIDS Legal Project
The Capital Area AIDS Legal Project was formed in 1987 to network private attorneys willing to provide pro bono
legal services to Central Texas individuals living with HIV/AIDS. Today, CAALP utilizes a network of over 130
volunteer attorneys to assist clients with estate planning, insurance, discrimination, public entitlements,
family law, domestic relations, debtor-credit, landlord-tenant, probate and other civil issues.
Since 1990, CAALP has assisted approximately 2,500 HIV-infected individuals with these
services and continues to serve approximately 400 clients a year. Many of those
who utilize CAALP would not otherwise be able to access much-needed legal services.
Volunteers are still needed for most aspects of the event from marketing and promotions to
setting up the venue. It's a great opportunity for the legal profession to benefit
their community and back a community legal program.

Lifeworks
Non-profit organization providing youth and families with housing and counseling.
Mentors are needed! The program is a 3-month commitment where a mentor is paired up with a Lifeworks client
aged 12-14 years old. The mentor and client spend 1.5 hours per week together
and do 3 volunteer projects together within those 3 months.

Stock Market Challenge
This project works to educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise,
business and economics to improve the quality of their lives. The game is simple:
Local businesses and organizations submit teams of 4 people. Each team is given
an account of $500,000 of play money; used to compete against the other
teams in a simulated stock market environment.
30 - 50 teams of four players participate and teams buy shares in their choice of 26 fictitious companies
using their account.

The VICTORY Tutorial Program

We give books to Austin children from low-income families to motivate them to
become lifelong readers, and teaches low-income parents effective ways of sharing
their books with their infants and preschool children. RIF primarily works through
elementary schools and childcare centers to provide children with new books several
times a year.
Volunteer Opportunities:
RIF Day Volunteer: Assist the school librarian or childcare center director during RIF Day.
Delivery Volunteer: A Delivery Volunteer works behind the scenes at the elementary
school program by delivering RIF books and supplies.
Office Volunteer: An Office Volunteer assists with various activities, including: labeling new books
with a sticker nameplate, checking in new shipments of books, organizing books on carts so they can be
labeled and shelved, and tallying surveys.
Book Reviewer: A Book Reviewer reads and reviews books for the RIF collection, paying particular attention
for stereotypes and objectionable material.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas
Founded in 1904, Big Brothers Big Sisters is the oldest and largest youth
mentoring organization in the United States. The Central Texas agency,
founded in 1971 serves 1,300 children annually in Travis, Williamson and
McLennan Counties. National research has shown that the positive
relationships between Big Brothers and Big Sisters and their Littles have a
direct, measurable, and lasting impact on children's lives.
Caring, adult volunteers are needed for our two programs:
Community-based program: A Community-Based Big Brother or Sister spends time with his or
her Little Brother or Sister a few times a month for a minimum of one year.
School-based program: A School-Based Big Brother or Sister spends the school year mentoring a boy or girl at
a local Central Texas school. It only takes one hour a week, and you decide what time is best for you.

Become a Volunteer Lawyer For Texas Artists
AYLA is recruiting attorneys to become volunteers for the Texas
Accountants and Lawyers for the Arts (TALA). TALA is a nonprofit
organization that provides pro bono legal and accounting services to
individual artists and nonprofit organizations.
Here's how it works: Every 2-3 weeks, an email goes out to all TALA
volunteers listing the available cases. Volunteers then email TALA with
which case(s) they can take. TALA's volunteer lawyers handle mostly
transactional work and the cases are fairly brief in nature.
